Job Description
Our client is currently looking for an IT Project Manager focusing on projects that involve software development as well as hardware/infrastructure projects. The IT Project Manager (Release Manager) oversees one or more large scale project or a release (group of several large projects) on an ongoing and regular basis. Individually, or as part of a team, responsible for project planning, reporting status, risk management, and issue resolution. Duties may include: assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project, communicating project status and issues to team and management, acting to reduce risk and resolve issues. Releases may require interaction with several business or interface partners.
 
Coordinates with other projects and work groups affected by the release.
 
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of assigned projects and provides a single point of contact for large scale, enterprise wide highly technical projects.
  • Takes projects from the start of the release phase through final implementation.
  • Work closely with the end users, business technologies, and others to understand and prioritize business goals and information needs related to the project.
  • Work closely with project teams located locally and remote
  • Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Conducts project/release meetings and are responsible for project tracking and analysis.
  • Consult with management and review project/release proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements and allotment of resources.
  • Works closely with other Release Managers to determine the overall release strategy, roadmap and deployment plan.
  • Works as a safeguard to production insuring the highest quality of product delivered to the business.
  • Manages the integration of vendor tasks and tracks and reviews vendor deliverables (as needed).
  • Recommends and drives the analysis and solutions of problems.
  • Facilitate business implementation process and define data conversion needs.
  • Act as subject matter expert, in release methodology.
  • Act as a strong leader and provide release management advice and guidance to other departments
  • Develop process improvements and efficiencies wherever possible.
  • May define hardware and software needs.
  • May determine, oversee and track budgets.
Qualifications
  • Generally requires BS Degree in an IT or business field or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of directly related experience
  • Conceptual understanding of current technologies and methodologies to plan and communicate effectively with project team and sponsors.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and techniques, and their application in business and technical environments.
  • Strong experience with planning, coordinating, and administering large scale enterprise wide projects in a software technology environment.
  • Experience with applicable technology sufficient to communicate and consult with team members, customers and management.
  • Experience with risk management and mitigation planning.
  • Experience with seeing the big picture and the ability to forecast potential conflicts and guide the team accordingly.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or a large scale project with multiple and complex inter-dependencies on high volume large transaction systems.
  • Experience developing and managing complex project budgets.
  • Experience facilitating meetings with high level cross functional teams.
  • Verbal communication skills sufficient to explain business needs to technical personnel and technical information to users.
  • Written communication skills sufficient to create technical specifications, project plans and other project documentation.
  • Knowledge of communication and Project Management tools to create project documents and reports.
  • Strong understanding of various software development processes, including requirements gathering, analysis and design, development tools and technologies, release and version control, contemporary testing methodologies, and deployment management.
  • Solid understanding of business or technical process changes, implementations, and deployments.
  • Strong SDLC experience is a must including Waterfall, RUP, and Agile.
  • Travel Required <10%
