Microsoft Announces Visual Studio 2013 and .Net 4.5.1 preview

On Day 1 of its Build 2013 conference Microsoft released public preview of Visual Studio and .Net 4.5.1 along with Windows 8.1.

Along with 8.1’s preview Microsoft also release a public preview of Visual Studio and .Net 4.5.1. The company also is releasing the final version of Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 today. Update 3 is the last of the regular updates to the VS 2012 product.

This new 2013 edition of Visual Studio brings with it over 500 new APIs, as well as an interesting new power management features. Network efficiency is also something that app developers will be able to keep tabs on with Visual Studio 2013.

In addition, the third update to Visual Studio 2012 was released. This is mostly focused on bug fixes, but it's an important update "if you need to be able to round-trip projects between Visual Studio 2012 and Visual Studio 2013, or if you want to run Visual Studio 2012 on the Windows 8.1 Preview," Microsoft Developer Division VP S. Somasegar wrote in a blog post.

A preview version of .NET 4.5.1 is available now as part of the Visual Studio 2013 download. ".NET 4.5.1 is a highly-compatible, in-place update for .NET 4.5 that ships as part of Windows 8.1," Somasegar wrote. 

In Microsoft's .NET Framework blog, the company explained that the release focuses on developer productivity and application performance. The .Net 4.5.1 release is focused on improving debugging and general diagnostics. The update also allows developers to enable Edit and Continue for 64-bit.

The new previews also add support for asynchronous debugging for C#, VB, JavaScript and C++ developers. .Net 4.5.1 also adds performance improvements for apps running on multicore machines. And more C++11 standards support, including features like delegating constructors, raw string literals, explicit conversion operators and variadic templates.
