The Metro Start Screen is the best feature of Windows 8 that contains a collection of Metro Apps, games and shortcuts for installed applications on the computer. Using the start screen you can easily access any application like you could using the start menu in previous versions of Windows. In Windows 8, however, the start screen displays applications in a row format and the number of rows is determined by the screen resolution of your computer Windows 8 displays four rows on the system with a resolution of 1024 x 768, five rows on a system with a resolution 1900 x 1080 and six rows on a 1920 x 1200 screen resolution.
 
In this article, we are going to explain how to change the default number of rows for the start screen application in Windows 8. For that, you must change a registry setting of Windows 8 and using the registry setting you can set the number of rows for the start screen application according to your needs.
 
By default the screen resolution 1920 x 1200 displays applications in the following format

How to change the number of start screen rows for applications?

 
Step 1
 
Go to the search box and type "Regedit" and click on the application that appears in the result.

The registry editor window will be opened.

In this registry window go to"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid". See.

In this step find the "Layout_MaximumRowCount" value from the right tab and double-click on it. See.

If the value does not exist in the right tab then right-click on "Grid" and select "New > Dword (32-bit)".
