Introduction

In this article we explain a new disk error checking feature in Windows 8.

Procedure for checking disk error in Windows 8

Step 1

First we must move to the Windows 8 Desktop. Open the "My Computer" window and right-click on the drive causing problems and go to its Properties.

Step 2

Then we see the disk properties window and click the "Tools" tab then click the "Check Now" button.

Step 3

Now we get two options, the first one is to "Scan Drive". Scan Drive allows you to work while the disk is checked for errors.

Step 4

Then the system starts checking for disc errors.

Step 5

After this process completes, we'll get a small summary report.

Step 6

The second is "Scan and Repair" that works the way it did in Windows XP. You won't be able to use your computer while the drive is checked for errors and repaired.

Step 7

Then we can schedule the scan and repair to be initiated on our next restart or just go ahead and "Restart" now.

Step 8

Then as Windows 8 is restarting, it starts a scan and repair of hard drive sectors.
