What to Install to Assign IP Address Through Windows Server 2012

Introduction

In today's article you will learn what to install to assign an IP Address in Windows Server 2012.

To assign an IP Address to multiple users you first must install two features in your Windows Server 2012, they are:

  1. DHCP SERVER
  2. IP ADDRESS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (IPAM)

Step 1

First of all login to your Windows Server 2012 as Administrator. When your login is completed the Server Manager will be opened automatically, if it doesn't open then you must open it manually.

In the Server Manager click on the Manage Button to open the "Add Roles and Features" to add the new feature.

Step 2

Now a new window will be opened in which a few instructions would be given, click on "Next".

You will then be prompted for an "Installation type" from which you select the first option and then click on "Next".

Then select the Server from the Server Pool. Siince I have only one Server in the Server pool my server is selected by default.

After selecting the server click on "Next".

Step 5

After clicking the Next Button a list of Rolls will be opened from which you must select the DHCP Server.

As you click on the DHCP Server a new window will be opened that will ask you to Add Features that are required for t5he DHCP Server.

Step 6

After clicking on the "Add Features" button click the "Next" button to add the features. Now from the list of features you must select the IP Address Management System (IPAM).

Again you must add the required features in IPAM to install it correctly.

Step 7

Now you must check the restart button if you want to provide the permission to the server to restart if required.

After that click on "Install" button to start the installation.

Step 8

Now your installation will begin, it will take a few minutes to complete the installation.

On completion of the installation, don't close  the installation window since you now must click on the link provided to complete the DHCP Configuration.

Step 9

Now a new window will be opened named "DHCP Post-Install Configuration Wizard" that will ask you to commit to creating the Security Groups. Click on the "Commit" button.

Now a Summary will be shown to you. Select the "Close" button to complete the process.

Now you will see that 2 notifications are flashing on the Flag on Server Manager. Click on Flag to see whether your installation was successful.
