The Microsoft Web Platform Installer (Web PI) is a free tool that makes getting the latest components of the Microsoft Web Platform, including Internet Information Services (IIS), SQL Server Express, .NET Framework and Visual Web Developer, easy.
There are many advantages of using the Web Platform installer, the big one which I love, is all the software is up to dates. You will get the latest version of the software along with CUs or SP1.
Other than that, it is lightweight, free of cost and fast. You can quickly find and install the Software. It is also available in many languages (14 as of now).
Installation of Web Platform
Let’s start the process to install the Web PlatForm Installer 5.0.
- Make sure your server is connected to Internet.
- Go to the following link” https://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9737537 ” to download the WebPlatformInstaller
- Double click on “WebPlatformInstaller_amd64_en-US.msi”
- Accept the Agreement and Click Next
- Wait for completion
- Click Finish
- To validate successful installation, go to start and click on search (top right hand side), then type web platform
This will conclude the installation of Web Platform Installer 5.0. You learned how simple it is to install the Web Platform Installer on a server. You can use the same installer for different software installation; i.e., SQL Express, etc.
- Now move to the next step, which is installation of the workflow manager 1.0 CU2.
