I worked on Windows Vista about 2 years ago, when it used to be known as Windows Longhorn. Couple of days ago, I got Windows Vista beta 2. This version is totally changed from what I had 2 years ago.
If you want to try it, you may download it from MSDN. If you are a MSDN subscriber, you can download it immediately. Otherwise you may order it online by paying shipping costs ($12).
Before you put Vista DVD in, you should uninstall antivirus Yes, that's corrent. Disabling won't help. The setup process will not proceed unless you uninstall antivirus. The setup program will also ask you to disable any personal firewall.
The next step of setup process will ask you to upgrade XP or start a new installation. Upgrade is recommended on Windows XP Pro. I did upgrade.
If you do have a wireless adapter, there are good chances your wireless won't work. I had NetGear WG111T USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter. I see Windows Vista does not support that. So if you have any wireless, be careful. You do not want to install Vista on your development machine. I would recommend to install on a seperate machine or install Virtual PC.
Accept these two problems, every thing went well.
It seems like Vista runs too many services. My machine is much louder than it was before.
