No Firefox browser for iOS app: Mozilla

Mozilla will not be bringing Firefox, its popular desktop Web browser, to iOS until Apple changes its unfriendly attitude.
Mozilla says that it won't release Firefox for iOS until Apple changes its hostile attitude toward third party browsers, reports CNET. Mozilla needs to be able to deal its rendering and JavaScript engines on iOS, something Apple won't allow in its closed App Store environment. Jay Sullivan, vice president of product at Mozilla, revealed the news at the South by Southwest conference in Austin.

Apple's Safari practices the speedy Nitro JavaScript engine exclusively, while limiting third-party browsers to UIWebView, which gives Safari a significant performance boost over other browsers. Mozilla did create an iOS application called Firefox Home, which allowed Firefox users to sync Firefox history and bookmarks with a WebKit-powered web viewer.

Safari currently rules the roost, with Android's native browser coming in second, while Firefox has failed to build a strong presence on mobile.
