Microsoft HoloLens Will Be Available March 30, Pre-Booking Starts February 29

According to the reports by Winbeta, Microsoft’s HoloLens Development Edition is going for pre-sale starting today, February 29, as it is expected to be launched on March 30.

Evidently, this news was restricted for press release which had been earlier broken.

The pre-order and launch date coincides with Microsoft’s Build developer conference in San Francisco, where new games that are being shipped with the holographic computer were also revealed.

The Development Edition kits are expected to sell for around $3,000, which will also include various tester programs which include:
  • HoloStudio which will allow developers to create 3D resources along with teaching developers various commands such as gaze, gesture, and voice for games and applications.
  • A special version of Skype which will allow users running Skype on any Windows device to interact with the holographic world.
  • HoloTour brings in 360-degree panoramic displays of places such as Rome and Machu Picchu creating an illusion which will make the user feel that he or she is there. Reportedly, HoloTour comes with features such as 3D sound and lets users walk around those various locations.
Kudo Tsunoda, corporate vice president at Microsoft, quoted in the Forbes article, states:

"This type of communication has enormous potential in both the consumer and business world. It will allow developers to communicate with each other using the holographic medium to share development methods and seek the advice of others. With Skype, you can see the holograms the other person is seeing and you can use holograms to illustrate helpful techniques or development approaches. It is our hope that the holographic development community will be just that—a community."

The Forbes article, which was leaked a week ago, notes that ActionGram will be coming later this summer. Reportedly, the app is a "holographic storytelling medium” and it will allow developers to blend holographic content into the settings of the real world, and it will allow the to create emotionally compelling and humorous videos.
