Microsoft Releases Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 CTP2 And Team Foundation Server 2013 Update 2 RC

On his blog, Developer Division Corporate Vice President S. Somasegar unveiled that Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 (2013.2) CTP 2 along with the Team Foundation Server 2013 Update 2 RC.

The main new feature of Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 is the first official version, 1.0, of the TypeScript. According to Somasegar, the first CTP Update 1 that came out earlier this month contained the bug fixes and a couple of new capabilities, but Update 2 is far beyond that.

TypeScript 1.0, the most awaited upgrade of the release is now a part of Visual Studio 2013 Update 2. It is a programming language launched by Microsoft in 2012 and supports JavaScript that allows developers to build larger, richer programs and it also comes with a promise of running on any browser, any host, and on any OS.

Apart from Typescript 1.0, Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 CTP2 includes the following features:

  • Entity Framework 6.1 Beta 1 is now included.
  • Microsoft has integrated the latest ASP.NET MVC, web API, and Web Page releases and a new editor for the SAAS files has also been added.
  • Inclusion of Team Foundation Server 2013.2 Release Candidate, with Go-live license for the TFS components and the Git improvements.
  • Enhanced Azure supports, providing the option to auto create an Azure web site and an SQL Azure database whenever the users create a new project.
  • Support build of Java apps in the hosted Git repositories with the Visual Studio Online.
  • Windows Azure Notification Hubs can send the test notification messages to the Windows Store, Windows Phone, iOS, and the Android devices and can check the outcome in the real-time

Microsoft says that the work for some of these improvements will continue in the coming months, so expect more features later. You may read more about the update release preview on Somasegar’s blog and find the full details in the release notes.
