Node v5.4.0 Available Now

The Node.js team just announced the Node v5.4.0 stable version. With this version, some changes and enhancements have been done to improve performance. Npm is the Node.js package ecosystem and the largest ecosystem of open source libraries in the world.

Node.js is designed to build scalable network applications. It was initially released in the year 2009 for developing server-side Web applications. Market leaders like Microsoft, Yahoo, LinkedIn, and PayPal use Node.js.

The Node v5.4.0 release also includes the following performance improvements:
  • assert: deepEqual is now faster while comparing TypedArrays.
  • lib: Use arrow functions instead bind where possible.
  • node: Enhanced accessor perf of process.env.
  • node: Enhanced performance of process.hrtime().
  • node: Enhanced GetActiveHandles performance.
  • util: Faster iteration in util.format().
Some known issues include:
  • Calling dns.setServers() while a DNS query is going on can lead the process to crash on a failed assertion.
  • Url.resolve may transfer the auth portion of the url when resolving between two full hosts.
  • Unicode characters in filesystem paths are not handled consistently across platforms of Node.js APIs.
