ODBC Driver 13.0 for SQL Server for Linux Released

The full release of the Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 for Linux – (Ubuntu, RedHat and SUSE) is finally revealed. The access to SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL DW from any C/C++ application on Linux is enabled with the help of a new driver.

The incredible new features states that with apt-get (Ubuntu), yum (RedHat/CentOS) and Zypper (SUSE), the driver can now be installed. Not only this, the transparent connections to AlwaysOn Availability Groups are now compatible with driver, which quickly discovers the current AlwaysOn topology of your Server infrastructure and connects to the current active Server transparently. TLS 1.2 connections to SQL Server are now supported by the driver.

For SQL Server, command line tools will be available soon, as far as Packages are concerned. If the manual instructions are being used to install the driver then the ODBC Driver and the unixODBC Driver Manager needs to be uninstalled manually. In future it is being planned that it needs to expand SQL Server 16 Feature Support.
