On Friday, microblog said anonymous hackers attacked Twitter this week and may be able to access passwords and other information of user accounts. According to Mashable, affected users should have received, or will receive, a notification from Twitter informing them of a password reset.
Twitter said,"This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident, the attackers were extremely sophisticated and we believe other companies and organizations have also been recently similarly attacked." The company also indicated that it reset passwords and "revoked session tokens" for those user accounts which may have been impacted by a security breach.
As this news unfolds, Twitter noted the investigation is ongoing they believes that they will detect the hackers. Bob Lord, Director of Information Security said, "We discovered one live attack and were able to shut it down in process moments later. However, our investigation has thus far indicated that the attackers may have had access to limited user information."
