Android Marshmallow Update For BlackBerry PRIV Coming Soon

John Chen, BlackBerry’s CEO, confirms Android Marshmallow to start rolling on BlackBerry PRIV by late April/May.

John Chen, BlackBerry’s CEO, confirmed when we can expect Android Marshmallow to start rolling on its first Google-powered smartphone. While numerous manufacturers have already released Android 6.0 to their customers, it seems that the owners of Blackberry PRIV will have to wait a bit longer, i.e., at least another month.

If you are a BlackBerry PRIV user, you will need to wait at least till the end of the month before Marshmallow starts making its way to your device. It’s possible that the update might arrive as late as May.

While it is really disappointing that BlackBerry have not been able to manage to get the Marshmallow update ready for releases, it is being assumed that the company’s custom software makes up for that somewhat. However, unlike other Android OEMs, its additional UIs and features serves a purpose, making Android better in some regards.

Features such as Hub for managing notifications and schedules and Galaxy Edge-like extra features for quick actions on the right edge of the screen are extremely useful for daily use. The software keyboard is quite good too.

It will be really interesting to see if BlackBerry tweaks and improves its customer software. Perhaps it will be more interesting to see if the company will opt to make use of the platform’s ability to adopt a MicroSD storage card as internal memory, or if it will rebuff it like other manufacturers.
