Bytedance, the company behind TikTok releases its own smartphone

Bytedance, the Chinese tech company behind popular social video app TikTok just launched its first phone. Named Smartisan Jianguo Pro 3, this device allows easy access to TikTok directly from the lock screen. Beginning early in 2019, Bytedance began purchasing patents from Chinese phone company Smartisan. Now the company's new phone has finally hit the market.

According to sources, the phone is currently limited to China, and specifications are as follows:

  • - Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+
  • - RAM: 8/12GB
  • - Rear camera: 48-megapixel primary sensor + 13-megapixel wide-angle    + 8-megapixel telephoto + 5-megapixel macro lens

This isn't the first time companies have attempted this fusion of hardware and software, and not all of these ideas were popular, such as Microsoft's 'Kin' device from 2010. However, given the potential for integrating social media and cell phone technology, perhaps more tech companies phones will continue this trend in the future. Though it could highlight issues of privacy, the convenience of having your favorite apps and phone seamlessly integrated is certainly undeniable.
