EMC Introduces Open Source Tool Unik For Cloud And IoT

EMC have made an official announcement stating the launch of Unik, an open source tool which allows developers to build as well as manage unikernels – specialized, lightweight kernels which could open up possibilities in the cloud computing ecosystem and Internet of Things (IoT) market.
The company in its official blog states,
“EMC announces release of UniK (pronounced you-neek ), an open source orchestration tool designed to bring unikernel functionality to application platforms.”
Unikernels are specialized operating system kernels written in order to act just like an individual software component. As unikernels represent the smallest subset of code, which requires running an application, what they have inherently offers more security and faster boot times compared to the traditional operating systems, which is mainly useful in the cloud and IoT maret.
Unikernels picked up steam due to the attention which they've gained from the likes of Docker, which was acquired by the unikernel Systems in January, 2016. It is a relatively new innovation, for which unikernels have to be widely adopted.
Unik, is now available under the Apache 2.0 license, which uses the simple docker-like command line interface in order to make building unikernels as easy as building containers.
