Facebook Announces Calibra, A Digital Wallet For Its Cryptocurrency Libra

Coming 2020, Calibra will be available in Messenger, WhatsApp and as a standalone app and will use Facebook's cryptocurrency Libra.

Facebook, making its cryptocurrency efforts official, recently announced, the first product Calibra, a digital wallet that will use a new cryptocurrency introduced by Facebook, called Libra.
Scheduled to be launched in 2020, the wallet will be available in Messenger, WhatsApp and as a standalone app.
The company said that Calibra is a newly formed Facebook subsidiary, aimed at providing financial services that will let people access and participate in the Libra network, a blockchain technology from Facebook supported by MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, eBay, Uber and Lyft among others.

According to the company, Calibra will allow users to send Libra to almost anyone with a smartphone, that also as easily and instantly as one might send a text message and at low to no cost. And with time, Facebook also plans to provide additional services like paying bills with the push of a button or buying a cup of coffee with the scan of a code.
Facebook said that Calibra will have strong protections in place to keep the money and information safe and it will be using all the verification and anti-fraud procedures that banks and credit cards use.
