GitHub Acquires npm

GitHub has signed an agreement to acquire npm.

Recently, GitHub announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire npm.
 
Github said that npm is a critical part of the JavaScript world and has helped JavaScript become the largest developer ecosystem in the world. npm is home to more than 1.3 million packages with around 75 billion downloads per month.
 
Github also said that for the millions of programmers who use the public npm registry every day, npm will always be available and always be free.

Github said that after the closing of the deal the focus of GitHub will be to spend in the registry infrastructure and platform, enhance the core experience, and engage with the community.
 
According to GitHub the JavaScript ecosystem is huge and growing speedily. It needs a rock-solid registry. The company will make the investments required to ensure that npm is fast, reliable, and scalable.
 
"we’ll integrate GitHub and npm to improve the security of the open-source software supply chain, and enable you to trace a change from a GitHub pull request to the npm package version that fixed it." wrote Github
