To buy the Development Edition, buyers need to join the Microsoft Mixed Reality Developer Program and those who already have pre-ordered the HoloLens 2 standard edition will be able to change their order later this year.

"Microsoft is making it easier to create for HoloLens 2 with the HoloLens 2 Development Edition, which provides the community of mixed- reality developers with access to solutions to help them build and run mixed-reality experiences across a range of devices." wrote the company.

Alongside the launch of the development edition, Microsoft also revealed that Unreal Engine 4 support will become available for HoloLens 2 before the end of May. This will allow developers to take advantage of native platform integration to create augmented-reality and virtual-reality experiences using Unreal Engine 4.
