Is Apple’s Focus Now Software?

Apple has been a dominating force and leader in computer hardware and devices for a while now but does not have much impact in the business and enterprise software like what Microsoft has.

It seems that Apple is now taking it more seriously. In news published on CNet, Apple just hired Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch.

From a press release from Adobe:

Kevin Lynch, Adobe CTO, is leaving the company effective March 22 to take a position at Apple. We will not be replacing the CTO position; responsibility for technology development lies with our business unit heads under the leadership of Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. Bryan Lamkin, who has recently returned to Adobe, will assume responsibilities for cross company research and technology initiatives as well as Corporate Development. We wish Kevin well in this new chapter of his career.

I think it makes sense for Apple to focus more on software now, to keep the company interesting and to build some new revenue streams. After all, software is more profitable than hardware.

Watch out Microsoft, Google and of course Adobe. Apple has that billions of dollars of cash pile sitting in banks that they can pretty much build anything they want to.
