"I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty." wrote MacKenzie Bezos in a letter posted to the website for the Giving Pledge.

Bezos has become one of more than 200 philanthropists who have signed the Giving Pledge. The Giving Pledge is an initiative to encourage the globe's billionaires to donate their wealth toward charitable causes.

A few weeks back, MacKenzie and Jeff Bezos finalized their divorce where the settlement made MacKenzie Bezos a 25% stakeholder - worth about $35 billion - in Amazon.

Jeff Bezos praised his ex-wife for her "beautiful" letter. He wrote on Twitter: "MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I’m proud of her."
