Microsoft Announces New Azure Cache For Redis

Recently, Redis Labs and Microsoft announced a new strategic agreement to bring Redis Enterprise to Azure as a fully integrated service. This integration will deliver Redis Enterprise as new, fully integrated tiers of Azure Cache for Redis.

Redis Labs said that this initiative is unique in that it integrates two existing offerings. Currently in private preview, the service gives two new Enterprise tiers to Azure Cache for Redis, to enable both DRAM and SSD support. These new tiers are powered by Redis Enterprise, equipping customers with the feature-rich, secure Redis deployment on Azure.

The integration will offer all the advantages of using a service embedded in Azure, including management through the Azure portal and command-lines and security and standards compliance.

Microsft said that the integration of Redis Labs technology with Azure Cache for Redis will enable clients to access Redis Labs-developed modules including, RediSearch, RedisBloom, and RedisTimeSeries, which provide new data structures that will further facilitate use cases like ML and data analytics.

As per the announcement, these modules will be paired with existing traits of Azure Cache for Redis including data persistence, clustering, geo-replication, and network isolation. Clients will also now have the opportunity to deploy on SSD flash storage, allowing up to ten times larger cache sizes and alike performance levels at a lower price per GB.
