Microsoft Introduces Windows 11 SE To Support K-8 Classrooms

Microsft announces a new edition of Windows 11 - Windows 11 SE -purpose-built to support the K-8 classroom; as well as an ecosystem of Windows 11 SE devices, including the new Surface Laptop SE.

Recently, Microsoft introduced Windows 11 SE, a new edition of Windows 11, purpose-built to support the K-8 classroom. The SE edition was designed and built during the covid 19 outbreak to address the most fundamental issues that schools will face in the blended learning world. 

The company also announced an ecosystem of Windows 11 SE devices, including the new Surface Laptop SE, as well as devices coming from Dell, Dynabook, Acer, ASUS,  Fujitsu,JP-IK, Lenovo, HP, and Positivo—powered by Intel and AMD. The new Surface Laptop SE has been custom built for students and costs starting at $249.

Accoridng to the company Windows 11 SE has been optimized for the most used training experiences, including Microsoft 365 applications, with both online and offline capabilities. The MS Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and OneDrive are available to use offline on Windows 11 SE devices as part of a Microsoft 365 license. The OneDrive app will store files locally, on each device, for students to access when they are offline. And, once they’re back at school with the internet available, Windows 11 SE will sync the offline changes automatically. 

Surface Laptop SE which has been built to bring Windows 11 SE to life is the most affordable Surface PC ever at $249. The device comes with an 11.6" screen, front-facing 720p HD camera, and stereo speakers. The laptop comes with up to 16 hours of battery life with typical use.

Microsoft said that it is evolving its education solutions to support more engaging, collaborative, and accessible learning. The company has built Education Insights, an app that gives teachers/trainers real-time analytics of student engagement, assignment performance, and emotional well-being, in order to understand where the needs are greatest and get a more holistic view of how students are doing.

The Immersive Reader feature is built into the Microsoft 365 products to make digital content easier to read and understand for students with reading challenges. The company has embedded Microsoft Translator into Microsoft Teams to help second language learners with real-time translation.

According to the announcement majority of devices will be available for ordering via education channels later this year.
