Microsoft Launches LAMBDA Functions For Excel

LAMBDA enables you to define a custom function in Excel’s own formula language.

Recently, Microsoft announced the release of LAMBDA, a new way to turn Excel formulas into custom functions.

The new capability LAMBDA allows you to define a custom function in Excel’s own formula language.   And, one function can call another function, "so there is no limit to the power you can deploy with a single function call."

Now a users can take any formula he/she has built in Excel and wrap it up in a LAMBDA function and give it a name (like “NewFUNCTION”). Then anywhere in the sheet, he/she can refer to NewFUNCTION, re-using that custom function throughout the sheet.

Users will need to make use of the Name Manager, to give their LAMBDA a name so it can be re-used. A lambda function is called the same way you call native functions in Excel.

Currently, the Lambda function is available to members of the Insiders Beta program.
