Windows 10 Grew, But Slower Than Expected

Windows 10 is being used by 110 million people but growth is slower than expected.

On July 29, 2015, Microsoft announced general availability of its latest operating systems Windows 10. In spite of free upgrades and giveaways, Windows 10 is growing at a slower pace than anticipated.

Based on statistics published by, Windows 7 still dominates the desktop operating system market with almost 56 percent of PCs running Windows 7. Windows XP still runs on 11 percent of PCs. Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 combined now run on little more than 22 percent of desktop computers.


Statistics published by StatCounter shows similar results with 50%, 16%, and 10%, market share by Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10 respectively.
