Yahoo Acquires Video Chat Startup OnTheAir

Early in November, Yahoo acquired mobile recommendations app Stamped in an effort to give form to its mobile strategy under CEO Marissa Mayer. Today, Reuters reports that Yahoo has acquired the five-person video chat startup OnTheAir.

OnTheAir's existing product, launched in March, allows Web users to host live video conversations and popular split-screen interviews, however the report does not specify whether Yahoo will modify the service within its mobile group.

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the acquisition represents another step toward Yahoo's aggressive plan to provide mobile services to its user base. According to the report, the company plans to commit at least half of its technical workforce to mobile products.
