Office 365 Comes to Life
Microsoft has been pushing Office 365 for a while now but I have
not seen any major company taking it seriously. At least, not the clients I
work with. In its early days, I remember signing up for Office 365 but never
really used it.
This week, Microsoft announced Office 2013 and SharePoint 2013.
Not only the new Office and new SharePoint are metro but also have several many
new features including online accessibility, SkyDrive connectivity and many others.
So how that does changes the fate of Office 365?
Well, you like it or not. You will have no choice but to use
Office 365. That's right. Microsoft is doing this way not. What way? The Apple
Way. Mr. Jobs may not be here with us but has left iPhone and iPad legacy that
is where Microsoft is heading tomorrow.
Now, Office and SharePoint developers
can build their apps. This app development also requires you to have an
Office 365 account.
So, there you go. That is where Office 365 is going to play a
major role now. Now Microsoft has an Office 365 Developer website where
developer can sign-up, build, manage and deploy their apps.
Once you signup and login, you will see options to setup Office,
SharePoint and even Lync. This is what my current Office 365 account look like.

What is Office 365 Developer Website?
An Office 365 Developer
Site is a preconfigured SharePoint 2013 Preview site that you can use to
create, test, and deploy apps for Office and SharePoint. You can deploy the
"Napa" Office 365 Development Tools development tools to this site to
get started developing SharePoint-hosted apps, and apps for Office documents
and mail items, even if you don't have Visual Studio 2012 and SharePoint
development tools in Visual Studio 2012 installed on your developer computer.
It comes with an isolated app domain for SharePoint-hosted apps, and it's
configured to use OAuth, so that you can use the Windows Azure Access Control
Service (ACS) for authenticating and authorizing provider-hosted apps for
SharePoint that are deployed to this site. You can use the Office 365 Developer
Site as a way to get started with developing apps for Office and SharePoint and
also as a development and testing environment for apps for Office and
SharePoint that you want to sell in the SharePoint Store and Office Store.
Office 2013 has been tested and designed to work with Windows 8,
SkyDrive and on Tablets. In fact, OneNote 2013 is already a Metro style app.
Soon, Office 2013 will be a Metro style app as well.
