Answer is YES but partially. You can build a .NET application on Windows and run that application on Linux. You just have to install Linux version of .NET runtime on the Linux box.

Hi,.NET is a Totally plateform Independent. In java After Compilation the ByteCode genarate Like our MSIL,so what is the Difference B/W Java N .NET.But Microsoft Alwayz like to wants the Plateform Dependecy. The Main Motive of Microsoft is to make the .NET as a Language Independent, but its plateform  Independent also.

One more thing like,Here people are saying that why Microsoft is not accepting that .NET is plateform Dependent. If they are telling like that then they dont have any idea about .NET.And one more think i tell you that Microsoft is the only Vendor for .NET,not like Java,Right now SUN MICRO SYSTEM is having 30 vendors for only one language.

Is it called the Plateform Independency???????????????????

By the way .NET is Rocking Now.........Thats all.

.Net was known as partially platform independent but now a days the .Net JIT compilers for almost every OS is available. As you can run any .Net app in Linux also. For more details you can visit the http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page link.

I hope, it helps.

.Net is platform neutral. Its support multiple language and complie it into
Microsoft intermediate language. if you want to run this code you have to install
platform compatible runtime(CLR).For unix you have install unix oriented CLR.
