In this article we explaining how to change the Windows Update setting in Windows 8. Windows Update certainly is the best way to keep your Windows updated with the latest patches and services packs. However, you do have several options for how updates are downloaded and installed. Microsoft transmits Windows updates on a regular basis. These updated files fix any security vulnerabilities present in the OS, provide stability to the OS and also protect your computer from malware.

But some users want to disable or turn off this Windows Update feature. Because when you turn off and start your computer after a Windows update its takes a long time to apply the changes made by Windows Update and Windows does not start until the update has completed.

How to change the Windows Update setting in Windows 8

Step 1

Go to the search box and type "control panel" and click on the Control Panel icon in the results window.

In Control Panel window click on "Windows Update".

Step 3

In the Windows Update window click on "Change setting".

Step 4

In the change settings window select "Never check for updates" from Important Updates. And click on "OK".

Step 5

If you want the Windows Update message to not be displayed in the Action Center then go to Control Panel and click on "Action Center".

Step 6

In the Action Center window click on "Change Action center setting".

Step 7

Now uncheck "Windows Update" and click on "OK" then exit from Control Panel.

I think Windows Update in Windows 8 is the same as in previous versions of Windows. In Windows 7 and in previous versions I use "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". That allows me to keep my system updated but I control when the updates are done.
