When I think about Laptops, I think about Sony, Apple, Dell, Toshiba, and HP. You won't believe it but I have 6 Sony Viao laptops and all the laptops we buy for employees are Sony. But I am just being biased here. But slowly my thought process is changing. I was so close to getting a recent ASUS ultrabook available to Best Buy.

When I buy anything, I go for design and looks. In the past year or so, three computer manufacturers have impressed me design-wise. And all these three manufacturers are NOT in the above list. These manufacturers are - Asus, Lenovo, and Samsung. These still need to earn my trust as Sony does but they are very close.

Nobody knows if Microsoft is playing roulette with Windows 8 but PC manufacturers have already started building PCs loaded with Windows 8.

Earlier this year, Lenovo announced IdeaPad YOGA, the industry's first multi-mode notebook with a 360-degree flip-and-fold design. The IdeaPad YOGA multimode notebook will be available in the second half of 2012 with an estimated starting retail price of $1,199. Guess what? It will be loaded with our favorite OS Windows 8 and running metro style apps.

This ultra-slim and powerful 13.3-inch HD+ with 1600 x 900 resolutions, multi-touch IdeaPad YOGA has four yoga positions – notebook, tablet, stand and tent. This makes it one of a kind four-in-one computer.

“It is clear to us that consumers want their four screens: mobile devices, tablets, notebooks, and smart TVs and they want them to work together seamlessly, anytime, anywhere. Whether a notebook that bends and folds, or an all-in-one that puts the 'wide' into wide-angle, today's announcements reflect our focus on delivering the inspirational innovations that consumers are looking for,” said Yang Yuanqing, Chairman and CEO, Lenovo. “The IdeaPad YOGA multi-mode notebook redefines the convergence and convertible the user experience by bringing together the best of traditional PCs, with the best of tablets and more.”

YOGA is the industry's thinnest convertible ultrabook measuring 0.67” (16.9mm) thin at 3.1 lbs (1.47kg).  Powered by the Intel Core Processor family with a Windows 8 operating system, YOGA supports eight hours of battery life with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. As a full-size notebook, YOGA's svelte design includes small but meaningful details such as soft-touch rubber paint on the exterior for a strong grip, a leather cover on the palm rest, and side buttons designed for easier access for all usage modes.
