Creating Custom Forum Chat Box: Chapter 1

This article will take you on an interesting journey of creating a custom designed forum chat box using Disqus, without writing a single line of code.

Overview

Do you own a website or a blog and want some cool forum or chat box features for it but you are in dilemma either how to build this feature or it's too difficult to design this functionality for your website? Is it really that difficult?

Chill, relax and think twice or may be thrice, it depends upon you … just kidding. Well this is now a very easy task using DISQUS. So in this article I'll be discussing how easily you can do that without writing a single line of code.

Yeah you read it right, without writing a single line of code (manually). So buckle up guys for this interesting journey because it's smart work. Here we go.

Step 1

First of all visit the official DISQUS website, which is: https://disqus.com/

In this page, you will find a portion something like shown below:

Add Disqus to Your site

In that portion simply click on "ADD Disqus to Your Site". On clicking this button it will redirect you to another page and in that page you will see a window like that.

That window contains 3 options or I better say functionality options. These are:

  • Site Name
  • Choose your Unique Disqus URL
  • Category

    site profile
The following is a brief introduction to these sections:
  • Site Name: In this section you need to provide Site name of your website or blog.

  • Choose your Unique Disqus URL: In this second section you need to select a unique Disqus URL, this URL can be your website / blog URL too (Just name, nothing else).

  • Category: Now at last select a category for your website, it can be a tech, business, and so on.

Step 2

Now simply provide all the necessary details as needed for further steps and then click on "Finish Registration".

Step 3

After clicking the "Finish Registration" option it will redirect you to another page, where you will get a list of all the supported platforms. These platforms are:

  • Wordpress
  • Blogger
  • Tumblr
  • SquareSpace
  • TypePad
  • Drupal
  • Joomla
In my case I am first going with Wordpress (later in this article I'll discuss for bloggers too, so stay tuned).

choose your platform

Step 4

On clicking the WordPress option you will get a box window, something like that. Now simply follow the procedure, mentioned in that box as:
  • Panel of Wordpress
  • Plugins (Option) -> Add New
  • Install DISQUS Plugin
  • Activate Plugin
  • Go with the described instruction sets

    setup instruction

If everything has gone fine then you will get this kind of forum box for your website.

Step 5

Login with your Facebook, Google, Twitter or separate Disqus account and start discussing.

after login page

Now guys, just clap for yourself because you just created a forum for your Wordpress without writing a single line of code.

Note

You can switch anytime to your preferred platform by a simple click. For that just click on the option next to this “SETUP INSTRUCTION FOR”, as shown in the picture:

switch platform using DDl

Suppose I did select "Blogger". Now let's see how this is going to work. Here we go.

On selecting you will get a window like that, containing an instruction set as:

switch platform

Just follow the instruction and again if everything has gone fine for you then you will able to see a screen like that:

Discussion hear

And after login you will get this:

I hope it will be useful to you guys and you will like that. (Actually don't only like, try to post some comments too; it doesn't matter whether positive or negative, I'll appreciate them all.)
