How to Add a Hard-drive to Windows 8

Nowadays every home user or computer professional purchases additional hard disks for increasing the storage of the computer. Connecting a hard drive physically to a computer is quite simple but the challenging part, however, is the initialization and partitioning of the hard disk once it is physically connected to the computer and the computer is started. You have to follow the steps given below if you need to initialize and partition the hard disk in the computer.
 
Because of reduced hardware costs every home user or computer professional purchases additional hard disk drives in order to increase the storage capacity of the computer. Connecting a hard drive physically to the computer is quite a simple task which includes connecting the power cable which comes out from the Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) to its respective port available in the hard disk drive and connecting one end of the data cable to its respective port in the hard disk drive and the other one to the appropriate controller present on the motherboard.
 
The challenging part, however, is the initialization and partitioning of the hard disk once it is physically connected to the computer and the computer is started. As a Windows 8 user if you want to initialize a newly connected hard disk to the computer you are required to follow the steps given below:
 
Step 1
 
Login to Windows 8 computer on which a new hard disk is physically connected.

Make sure that you use an administrator account to log in.
 
Step 2
 
From the given option available on the applications Click on Desktop.

Step 3
 
right-click on the Computer icon and from the context menu that appears click on the Manage option.

Step 4
 
From the Computer Management, Click on Disk Management option and if you have installed a new hard disk, it will automatically be displayed with Initialize Disk box with the checkbox checked on the hard disk that is newly installed and needs to be initialized.

Step 5
 
Click on the Ok button to leave everything as default and initialize the newly connected hard disk. Once initialized, the hard disk can then be partitioned and formatted according to the requirements.
