Introduction
R is a programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing. R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand was officially released on April 1, 1997. R language, written in C, Fortran, and R, is an open-source licensed under GNU General Public License.
R language is used with the R environment.
The R Environment
R is an integrated suite of software facilities for data manipulation, calculation, and graphical display. It includes
- an effective data handling and storage facility,
- a suite of operators for calculations on arrays, in particular matrices,
- a large, coherent, integrated collection of intermediate tools for data analysis,
- graphical facilities for data analysis and display either on-screen or on hardcopy, and
- a well-developed, simple, and effective programming language which includes conditionals, loops, user-defined recursive functions, and input and output facilities.
Operating System
R language can be used to write and interpret code on Windows, Unix, and Mac OS loaded machines.
R popularity
Recent growth in big data and need of big data analysis, charts, and reports, R popularity is growing day by day due to its use for data analysis, data manipulation, calculation, and graphical display.
