I think it is worth saying that since 2001 Eclipse has been developed by a consortium of companies. By 2004 there were more than 80 companies in the consortium. I know from personal experience that Eclipse needs quality control of its plugins but Eclipse does support many languages and enviroments using plugins.

Thank you for saying that the choice is somewhat a personal decision. I think that any article about either should not conclude that only one of them is the best for everything.
