This configuration will help you to assist the members and role providers in authenticating the web application.

How to configure?

Let’s open Central Admin of SharePoint on your machine. On your Windows desktop screen, click Start >> Administrative Tools >> SharePoint 2016 Central Administration.

  1. Run it as an administrator to have elevated privileges.
  2. You will see the screen below.

  3. Central Admin is configured under the categories given below.
  4. You will see Web Applications.

  5. Click on "Manage Web Applications".
  6. You will see the screen given below.

  7. Here, we can see various options to work with Web Applications.
  8. Let’s see them from left to right in different parts of the article.

We have four categories where the events have been categorized.

  1. Contribute
  2. Manage
  3. Security
  4. Policy

In this part, we will see “Authentication Providers” under the "Security” category.

  1. Select the Web Application and click on "Authentication Providers".
  2. You will see the screen below.

As we can see from the above image, we have a default authentication provider, which is Windows.

Once you click on "OK," all the configurations selected by you will be added by default in all the sites within the web.
