Microsoft 365 is one of the most widely used productivity subscriptions worldwide. It includes familiar tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive, plus ongoing updates and cloud services that make working, learning, and collaborating easier. In India, Microsoft offers several plans aimed at individuals, businesses, and enterprises — each with different monthly costs per user. Prices are usually shown with annual billing, meaning you pay year-long upfront, effectively lowering the per-month amount. In this article, we’ll break down these pricing options clearly, explain what you get for each, and help you decide which fits your needs.
1. Microsoft 365 for Individuals & Families
These plans are meant for personal use — by one person or a household.
Microsoft 365 Personal
Cost: about ₹689 per user per month (annual billing) in India.
This subscription includes the full suite of Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote), 1 TB OneDrive cloud storage, and regular updates.
You can install apps on multiple devices (PCs, Macs, tablets, phones).
Ideal for students, freelancers, and professionals who need Office on their own devices.
Microsoft 365 Family
Cost: about ₹819 per month when billed yearly (shared among up to 6 users).
Each user gets their own 1 TB OneDrive storage and access to full apps.
Great value if you’re sharing with family or a group.
Total cost is shared, so per person it’s much cheaper than individual plans.
Note: These retail subscription prices in India were recently increased when Microsoft introduced more AI features (e.g., Copilot).

Designed for small and medium businesses with professional email, collaboration tools, and Office apps.
Microsoft 365 Business Basic

Good choice for most small businesses needing both online and offline Office access.

4. Special & Add-On Pricing (Copilot & AI Services)
Microsoft also offers Copilot AI features that can be added to certain plans for an extra fee (e.g., around ₹2,495 per user per month). This is optional and mainly relevant for businesses that want advanced generative AI assistance inside Office apps.
5. Price Trends and What to Expect
Microsoft updated its pricing structure in recent years as it added AI capabilities like Copilot into its productivity suite. For example, India’s monthly subscription for Microsoft 365 Personal increased from previous levels to around ₹689 per month as of 2025.
Additionally, Microsoft has plans to adjust commercial pricing further globally, including India, in 2026 to reflect new features and security enhancements.

Free trials available: Business plans often include trial options for one month.
Choose based on need: Personal users may only need the Individual plan, while businesses will benefit from Standard or Premium offerings.
