  Where is the MASM SDK? Where do we download it from?

    MASM SDK is a built-in feature of VS IDE, no need to download anything, just read the article properly....

    I have both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013 installed. I have searched my "Program Files (x86)" and "Program Files" directories for files and folders with masm in the name. I have none of the files and folders mentioned in this article. I cannot find a masm32 directory. Note that for the linker's "Additional Library Directories" the article shows specification of include, lib and macros subdirectories in the "D:\masm32" directory. That is not a directory that Visual Studio setup produces unless the setup is customized. Also note that the linker cannot use the includes so it is unlikely that the include directory has any value there and the macros directory probably is also not useful.

    This article probably uses MASM from masm32.com. I do find documentation saying that MASM is provided with VS but I think this article does not describe its use, at least not entirely. See: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/afzk3475.aspx

  What is the difference between COFF executables and PE executables? What versions of Windows support COFF executables?

    PE describes the structure of executable (image) files and COFF are the object files used by Microsoft products. As the name imply, PE is not architecture specific and divided into DOS compatible header,OEM identifier,stub,section headers and import pages,whereas COFF divided into section headers and raw data.

    Thank you. Most places in the MSDN specify PE format but I think it does not say COFF, so it helps for people to know that COFF is the same as PE (correct?) in this context.
