In this article, I would like to share the steps to pin files to the top in a SharePoint Online Document library.
- It is one of the features in SharePoint Online modern libraries, every document library has multiple documents, and using this feature we can pin the important documents.
- We do not need to scroll down to a document library to find the important documents.
- This feature is not available in the classic experience. We can highlight the important files and folders by pinning them
Here are the steps to be followed for pinning files to the top,
Step 1. Open the SharePoint site.
Step 2. Go to the SharePoint site contents and open the document library.

Step 3. Then select the important document which you want to pin to the top.

Step 4. After selecting the document click on the “Pin to top” option.

Your document will be available with the preview of the document library, you can use the same procedure for all the documents.

Step 5. Once you pin more than one document you can move the document from right to left. Select any document that you want to be pinned,

Step 6. Then select the Edit pin from the library command bar to move left or right.

Here, I moved the center document to the right side.

Summary
In this article, we have explored how to pin files to the top, left or right in SharePoint Online modern library. Happy Learning.

Do you know what causes some docs to be able to be pinned in SP, but not others? The user in Q has full design rights to the doc library and is an owner to the folder. There are only some files that she cannot pin and I'm not finding much consistency. Some of the ones she cannot pin are diff types (xlsx, pdf, etc), I see no protection set on the file, they have various authors, they were not currently in use or checked out. Just seems to be random and I'm not finding a ton of info online about varying file types not pinning in SP.

These set documents at the top for everyone who views the library? Is it possible to personalize this?
