  MVVM is crap. Sorry folks, You know, when you see the basic requirement for an app and look at all those xaml code of many pages what a nice challenge for modifications. I prefer the basic way, with base classes and nice C# code well formated with regions, well documented and the ease of debug. What a nice juice to have breakpoints and SEE with your own eyes, what's going on. I know today we can debug xaml binding, but what a pain ! Anyway, When I start app, I do the basic thing it needs, trying to avoid the cahos of GENERATED CODE where you loose control. It's like having a luxary car that stops for no reason. Try to find out where it is in the multiple sensors and computers on that car. If you have a LADA, you'll find out what the problem is in no time. MVVM = loosing control. This is my opinion only. If it's suitable for some peoples, it's ok, I just need to make sure people understand what's going on while using PATTERNS everywhere.

    I just wanted to share that recently I tried my hands on mef with silverlight and realised that even mef could contribute a lot towards a easy and stable mvvm pattern...club with a proper memory management...

    To that end..I say absolutely...the MVVM light kit is pretty invaluable. I had a similar experience in keeping a blendable environment. Hard to get my collegues onboard though under pressure. I also had to solve a non-third-party solution for the event to commanding..and did so...but I still face resistance because it takes stabilization and buy-in from the team as far as a team effort. But I get this.

    Proper MVVM patterns involve declaritively binding events and commands to the view model through XAML commands and triggers which bind to the correspnding commands and event handlers within the View model. The only way I have seen is through Commands and Event Triggers (as well as other third party support (ie GalaSoft) for triggering events). So yes. Even so, I have seen it an acceptible practice to keep "View Oriented" behavior that has nothing to do with business functionality to be left in the code behind. For example popup messages and such. This is just my take. Overall, our team has taken an approach to have a navigation controler service to mind all of the navigation and messaging for the UI...but to leave all business functionality in the View Model. Just today, I created a service to allow view sensitive components to talk to the views and dictate how navigation proceeds based on the edit state of entities and the users choices. It is certainly not as simple as this article implies..and it can be misleading for those getting started with MVVM. Though this article explains the reasons and benefits well. It leaves a world of topics uncovered and I am yet to see a complete explanation as to how MVVM is practical in an enterprise level web application. I am happy to discuss this more.

  Here let me take this opporunity to say thank to such a great speaker. Prabhot sir is not only a great writer (as you can see from this article ) , he is a great speaker too. I attened his session in Ahmadabd Microsoft community techdays on the very same topic. He is a story teller. How simply , he explained MVVM model to audience was more than awesome. I shared next seat in flight with him from Ahmadabad to MUMBAI and I found this man got many things to share with community. I request you sir , please find some time for our site and give your articles to us . It will help the larger audience. Thank you so much Dhananjay Kumar

  The one thing I cannot find with this pattern is how to handle things like authentication session time out, or network failure messages. I want to handle these gracefully by say, allowing the user to log back in if they should time out by having a popup come up. Or if they try to execute a method that requires login...show a popup. How can this be done with no code behind. Please help I have been searching for a long time now. Do I have to get some event publishing in place?
