I have removed read only and required both options and it worded. Very weird !

Hi, I have created an external list using sharepoint designer. Primary key in the table is not autogenereted. So, I removed readonly option for the identifier. when I tried to edit an item it is showing an error "The Field named 'RoleID' contains an Identifier which is not read only. The Update operation requires a corresponding PreUpdaterField for this Field ." Please let me know how to edit an item when primary key is not autogenerated. Thanks.
