Snowman Consensus Protocol:
- Snowman is a linear, chain-optimized consensus protocol used in the Avalanche blockchain ecosystem.
- It’s specifically designed for blockchains that require a totally ordered sequence of blocks, such as those running smart contracts — like the C-Chain and P-Chain.
How Snowman Works —
- 1. Propose Block - A validator proposes the next block to be added to the chain.
- 2. Sampling Validators - A validator proposes the next block to be added to the chain.
- 3. Voting - Those sampled validators check if the block is valid and cast a vote (yes or no).
- 4. Repeated Sampling - If enough validators agree, the process is repeated for multiple rounds to build consensus.
- 5. Finalization - Once a block receives enough repeated confidence, it is finalized and added to the blockchain.
