The feature being activated is a Site scoped feature, which has a dependency on a Site Collection scoped feature, which has not been activated. Please activate the following feature before trying again: SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure f6924d36-2fa8-4f0b-b16d-06b7250180fa

To activate the publishing, we need to enable some site features in the SharePoint online site features option. I will show how to activate these features step by step.

Before starting, we need to know what the SharePoint publishing infrastructure is. It provides an improved way to create and store the information displayed through the site's Web pages.

We need two features to activate on the SharePoint site. The first feature is the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature, which we need to activate at the site collection features. Once the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature is activated, the SharePoint Server Publishing site feature can be activated on the sites within the site collection.

Steps are given below to fix the issue:
  • Login to SharePoint Online site and try to activate SharePoint Server Publishing. We will get the error given below

  • Now, we need to enable the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature from the site feature of the site collection or the site page.
  • Select the gear box from the left side of the screen and click on the site setting option.
  • Here, select site collection features from the Site collection Administrator.
  • We will be getting the site collection features wizard. Find the Publishing infrastructure feature.

  • From the feature page SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure, provide the centralized libraries, content types, master pages, and page layouts. Enable page scheduling and other publishing functionality for a site collection.
  • Once this feature activates, go back to the site features page from site settings under the site actions.
Note

SharePoint Server Publishing infrastructure will take some time to activate.
  • Select the highlighted features for SharePoint Server Publishing and activate them. We should not receive the error given above.

  • Once this is activated, we can see that many new apps are created under the site contents. Go to the site contents page by clicking the gear box and selecting site contents
  • Also, there are many more Web parts that will be added on the Web part wizard page.
