In the past system analysis was separate from programming. Often programmers would be designated as progarmmer analysts or something like that to indicate they could do both. Some job positions were for analysis only and in my opinion an analyst that is not experienced in programming is likely to make bad descisions. My guess is that there will be a greater need for analysts in the future. There will be a need for people to analyze what needs to be done and to explain it to an AI system. Some of the programming will need to be done by people but AI will be able to at least do the programming that is frequent and common. In the past management often did not want to spend time documenting systems. They would say that documentation is good but they often would not provide programmers extra time to write good documentaion. Old systems that need to be rewritten are often not rewritten due to the excessive amount of time required to do a rewrite. The air traffic controls system of my country I trhink is an example of that. I think that in the future management will support development of accurate documentation since AI will require precise descriptions. In the future it will be much easier to rewrite applicaitons when needed.
