what is the problem with when matched and when not matched, its similar to if else
MERGE INTO table a
  USING table b
    ON (a.someId= b.someId)
  WHEN MATCHED THEN
    UPDATE SET a.status = b.status
  WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN
    INSERT (Id, status)
    VALUES (b.Id, b.status);
