Architecture for running processing intense algorithms on web server

Hi,

I am looking for a solution to run a processing intense scheduling algorithm on webserver accessed by upto 500 clients.

I am not sure how to have an architecture to handle 500 clients at the same time accessing the scheduler?

What will be the backend proessing and scheduling? This can run in the background on other machines if the web server does not have enough resources. For all backend processing, you can have a seperate VM where all algorithms can run and the VM can be configured based on resource needs.

BTW for online systems, 500 clients is nothing. Its easy to handle even millions of clients as long as all processing doesnt happen on the web server itself.
