ASP.NET Radiobutton List Preserve Value

Naman Joshi

hello people,

I'm creating a project which is basically a quiz containing some pool of questions .
The issue i'm facing is with the radiobutton list, when user clicks the previous button then the selected value of the radiobuton list control is lost between postbacks.

The GUI contains a next button for the next question which is running perfectly fine but as soon as the previous question button is clicked to view the previous question the previous selected value of the radio button is lost.

Please, help me, how can i preserve the value of radio button list

Regards

Thanks in advance

You can store in Session, but the problem comes if you want to navigate to 3,4 times to previous button. So advised you to maintain in a dictionary and keep it in session

Hi, If you can maintain Dictionary with Key as Question Number and Value as Answer and maintain it in a session, you can fetch the value for previous answers.

hey thanks for the reply
your logic seems valid, but i want to do it with the help of dataset and state management so can you please offer me some solution on that.

The questions are already in database and now i wont be able to revert all the changes and make a xml file(for now).

Let me tell you what i'm doing:
From the database i'm fetching the questions and their options and loading them in the dataset and then from dataset i'm forwarding the question(next button) and going to the previous question via the previous button, while maintaining a counter.
So i'm looking for some state management or something that when the user click the previous button the value in the radio button list should be preserved which we see in any online quiz system.

XML funda, seems legit but for that i will have to restructure the architecture of the project.

Well, Thanks for your response, looking forward to hear any other solution from you .

You can use XML in this case, maintain a XML node for each question and answer and when you are going to previous question retrieve it from corresponding XML Node and mark it.
