can any one help is asp.net required to know while using sharepoint

You don't have to know ASP.NET to work with SharePoint depending on what you are doing. If you are a developer want to build custom solutions, you will end up using ASP.NET to build custom solutions but if you are an Admin or developer using out-of-box features, you really don't need to know ASP.NET.

Thank you mahesh actually i am using blogengine.net tool here one requirement was i need to add disussion forum in my site so could u plz tell me is it possible that we can use sharepoint in my site for discussion forum.
