BackgroundWorker.RunWorkerAsync Method

The RunWorkerAsync() method starts the background operation which runs asynchronously i.e. concurrently with the main thread. When the operation starts the DoWork event is raised.

You can pass an argument of type object to RunWorkerAsync. When you do so, this is assigned to the Argument property of the DoWorkEventArgs object which is passed to DoWork's eventhandler.

For example:

Imports System.ComponentModel

Module Program

Dim WithEvents worker As New BackgroundWorker()

Sub Main()

worker.RunWorkerAsync("Hello worker!")

Console.ReadKey()

End Sub

Sub DoWork(ByVal sender As Object, e As DoWorkEventArgs) Handles worker.DoWork

Console.WriteLine(e.Argument)

End Sub

End Module
