hi,

can anybody tell me that is there any built-in function to count a specific words in a given array of string???

i have a list of unique words and i want take the count of that words in a given text file

I think the code snippet from @Tapan Patel should work (+1). You might need to add addtional logic, to replace the special character (? . , ) with empty space before splitting it. Also watch out for bad data like two spaces in between words.

You want to do this, I believe:
Note that 'you' and 'you?' will be different words here as I am splitting string using space as delimiter. take care of those and variable k will have the list of words along with counts.
string text="hello how are you? how are you today?"
var k =text.Split(' ').GroupBy(x => x).Select(y => new { word = y.Key, count = y.Count() });

i have a text file and text is like " how are you? how are you doing today ? i am fine today."
so in this file the distinct wordsare "how ,are you,today, doing, i, am,fine" and i want the individaul count of of that distinct words like. word "how" appears two times and word i appears one times and so on..
i code it like:
count =1;
if (textfile[i].contain(distinctWord[i]))
count+=1;

but it give me the whole count of text file words..

I dont think there is an built in function to get count of specific word. But you can do it in 2 steps. Split the string and store in array then write linq query. do group by then get the count.
