C# And Win 7 - Registering as a listener

Hi there,
Big variety of forums so I hope I hit the right one.
I'm working on a project for school and I wanted to know if there is a way to register as a listener to windows so that I send a delegate that will be activated at a certain time and date.
for IE. I want to schedule a post to facebook tomorrow at 2PM, and at that exact time windows will activate that delegate.

If you need to do the scheduling from within the program itself, then one way to do it would be to use a timer and set the interval to the number of milliseconds between now and the scheduled time. In code that would be something like this:

DateTime dt = DateTime.Today.AddHours(38); // 2.00 pm tomorrow
int ms = (int)(dt - DateTime.Now).TotalMilliseconds;
timer1.Interval = ms;
timer1.Start();

You could then handle the timer's Tick event and make your posting when the event fires.

However, if the scheduled date were several days hence, you'd need to be careful not to exeed the maximum value for an int of 2,147,483,647.

The program would also need to be running continuously for this to work.

Alternatively, you could save the details of the scheduled event to a file, which the program could examine each day on startup and, if necessary, start the timer with the interval set to the appropriate value.

If you might need to schedule several events at once, then you could just set the timer interval to 60000 ms say and the timer_Tick event could then check whether one of the scheduled times had been reached and, if it has, perform the appropriate action and remove the event from the queue.

Sounds good, maybe I'll go with 24hour timer at the start of the day that checks at 12 if there's any messages waiting to be sent and then it refreshes itself, sound go no? thanks Vulpes!

Only problem will be that I need to schedule the message from within my program since that is the main idea.

The easiest way to do it is to write your application to make the post to Facebook and then use the Windows Task Scheduler to run it as a scheduled task at 2.00 pm on a particular day.
